As a company that's been been working with the cloud in-depth since it's inception, and helped hundreds of clients move to the cloud, we thought we put together a few pros and cons with regards to moving to Exchange in the cloud to help you avoid any headaches in the future.
Advantages and Disadvantages of using Microsoft Exchange?
Pros:
- Best email server hands down with 50 GB storage for Plan 1 and 100 GB for Plan 2 (Second best is Workspace Gmail with 30 GB)
- Perfect integration with Microsoft Outlook desktop application (No errors and no lags)
- Perfect integration with the rest of the Microsoft Office Suite (OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint, etc..)
- Online Availability through any browser or any computer using Outlook online
- Small and mid-size businesses now have access to enterprise-level security with Microsoft Authenticator app
- Perfect synchronization of your emails, contacts and calendars with multiple devices (Desktop, Laptop, Cell phone and tablets)
- Very easily share calendars with coworkers
- Easily upgrade to Microsoft Office 365 Standard that includes the complete Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc..) including Exchange Plan 1 and OneDrive 1 TB
- Microsoft 365 provides a 30-day file history and automatically empties the Recycle Bin when the storage limit is reached
Cons:
- Expensive but not too much compared with equal features services like Gmail
- Migration is delicate, and need to do a backup to make sure that all items are included
- If you don’t want to use Microsoft Office every Google Workspace edition includes apps such as Gmail, Calendar, Meet, Chat, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc..
